Restore, Rise, Restart

A holistic approach to restore the emotional and psychological well-being

WP 2: Restore

The main objective of WP2 is to support the acquisition/development of skills by prison staff to support the mental health of the inmates. This document will directly contribute to raising awareness of the importance of mental health as a key to respect human rights and dignity of each person, including those who have committed crimes.

To achieve this goal, the partnership will design and produce an Ebook “RESTART Methodological baseline for educators”, which will contain descriptions of intervention methods for restoring the emotional and psychological well-being of inmates both within and beyond prisons. The Ebook will present different techniques of emotional/psychological care of inmates already adopted in European prisons or strategies that could be applied in prisons, which have proven to be effective in other contexts or targets (e.g. adult migrants).

WP 3: Rise

WP3 RISE aims to develop and improve the social-emotional skills (SES) of inmates by putting into practice the intervention model developed by WP2. The WP3 guarantees the achievement of the project objective 2 “Support the inmates in the development and re-discovery of their socio-emotional skills”, also through the piloting activity in which 40 prisoners will be directly involved. Moreover, through the implementation of a short transnational training session (in Italy), WP3 contributes to the achievement of the first objective of the project, which is “Provide tools to the staff that works inside the prison to support the emotional and psychological well-being of the inmates”. All the activities that will be carried out in WP3 have as
their ultimate goal the inclusion of (ex) prisoners in the social context, at the end of the sentence, and therefore, beyond the prisons (O3). The WP3 also aims to broaden the scope of support actions for beneficiaries, extend the intervention from the first health activities that prisoners receive within prisons to deeper action to facilitate their social inclusion in civil society, after punishment.

WP 4: Restart

The main objectives of the WP4, is to widen the dimension of the support actions targeting the beneficiaries, extending the intervention to the first health and social activities to a deeper action for facilitating the social inclusion of the prisoners into the civic society of the hosting EU country. To assure this objective, personalized routes will be proposed for each beneficiary, agreed with the social workers. The beneficiaries needs will be taken into account in order to help their socio-economic integration, such as career guidance for an active job search, preparation of CVs, short courses to develop soft skills and enhance job opportunities, focused on Personal Branding and other life skills. To help beneficiaries to give meaning to what they are doing and facilitate their integration in the labour market an individual path will be designed for each participant with the objective to find the specific and necessary skills of the beneficiaries, identify the opportunities offered by the territory and accompany the beneficiaries in a job path identified together with them.

At the end of the project the “Guidelines for implementation of RESTART model” will be drafted, to collect main RESTART project’s results, to provide recommendations on how to repeat the experience in other countries, to suggest measures to ensure the project sustainability. In parallel, 6 short testimonial videos of beneficiaries, both prisoners and workers, will be
produced.
